| From Narita airport to Portland in Oregon via San Francisco A big typhoon hit Japan on August 9. We had very strong wind, but at last our plane punctually took off. |

| You can't see our plane clearly because of heavy rain. | Night was very short because our plane was heading the sun. | After we slept a little, dawn came. |
| A Very Strict Security Check We knew that security was very strict in U.S. this time and we had to take off our shoes. But to tell the truth, I had a special knife made in Switzerland in my bag. When we transferred San Francisco to Portland, in front of the gate a lot of people lined up for a check (inspection). On a board it was written that those who had knives, screwdrivers, and so on were criminals! First we took off our shoes and we safely passed a metal inspection. From now on terrible! We each one raised our hands and I showed even a reverse of my belt and an officer checked our belongings in our bags. Finally an officer found out a knife in my bag! I thought I had to get into a prison, but I promised to leave a knife and at last I was released. We were able to get on a plane on schedule. We were relieved! |

This is the Multnomah Fall and it is the tallest and the most beautiful fall in Portland. And the view from the bridge in front of the fall is the best. |
This is Mt.Hood. It is similar to Mt. Fuji in Japan and is almost the same height. It
was covered with clouds, but as we were close to it, luckily we were able
to see the top of the mountain. |
| Hilton Portland Hotel We stayed in the Hilton Hotel with a suite room thanks to a friend. |
